Devil’s Waterhole Nature Trail
This short, crushed granite path provides easy access to the popular Devil’s Waterhole. It also leads to the trailhead for Valley Spring Creek Trail. The kids enjoyed balancing on the rock wall that holds up a portion of the trail, stomping over the bridge, and exploring the rock crevices and caves at the trail’s end. Devil’s Waterhole is a hot spot for fishing, swimming, and bird watching.
Our early-winter visit did not disappoint for bird watching. We saw several waterbirds, including a great blue heron, great egret, Canada geese, coots and mallards.
Valley Spring Creek Trail
This trail is great for little explorers. To access the trailhead, you’ll first need to walk down the Devil’s Waterhole Nature Trail. From the trailhead, start heading up the gently sloped rock face. Continue along the dirt trail, marked by green paint spots on rocks. Follow the paint spots and you’ll adventure over and through fascinating rock features, high above the Valley Spring Creek that feeds into Inks Lake. Young children may require help stepping down or over the rocks. Just past the turning point, take a rest at the bench, and then stroll through the woods back to Devil’s Waterhole.
